Flowers can communicate messages of sympathy, love, condolence, and respect – they are a visual means of expression.
Different blooms and their colours symbolise a range of sentiments, so the flowers you choose can help you to express your feelings of grief and loss.
You may wish for the favourite flower of your loved one to be included in the tribute design. However, some flowers are only available seasonally, so please check with your florist.
It is worth considering what you would like to happen with floral tributes after the funeral service, as it is becoming more commonplace for families to collect one, a few, or all floral tributes afterwards.
They could be taken to the care home where your loved one resided, placed upon the graves of other family members resting in the same cemetery, taken home to your own or your loved one’s garden, or taken to the wake or gathering after the funeral and inviting mourners to take stems home with them in remembrance.
There are many styles of floral tributes, ranging from classic floral cushions, bespoke shapes such as teddy bears, hearts and letters, to elegant double-ended coffin sprays.
We recommend that floral tributes are delivered to our Funeral Home at Balmoral Road on the morning of the funeral service, complete with any accompanying message cards.
Your florist can contact us directly, to confirm the time for delivery.
Spring blooms such as tulips and daffodils represent hope, renewal and new beginnings. Summer brings peonies, symbolising peace in eternal life, and sunflowers that bloom during late summer to represent strength, admiration, loyalty and devotion.
Autumnal tributes may include dahlias to represent lasting bonds.
